Secret “What can change the nature of a man?” Page

In my humble opinion, the answer is… anything.

For this is what sums up Torment. Planescape is Moralityscape. A multiverse where the commodity is man, or rather the souls of mortal beings. They have a unique worth, for that is what immortals fight over, whether it be fodder for the Blood War, or to join as a mote in a holy choir singing an endless canticle of praise. What gives mortals their unique worth is that their morality, their nature, can be changed. And they have a choice as to how and why they change – anything can change the nature of a man, for it is his own free will that enables him to do so.

That is why the answer to the riddle is simply that you must choose your answer, not perhaps the answer of a crone about to insert her dirty fingernail into your cranial cavity and winkle its contents out through your left eye socket…

The game itself qualifies its “anything” answer at the very end when you confront your mortality. You may refute the “nothing” answer, not just with “anything”, but with “belief”. This is essentially that it is the belief that you can change which enables you to change.
