For the past few months I have been working slowly on a new module for Neverwinter Nights 2 called The God in the Bowl. This is a continuation of the Conan Chronicles 2 campaign and should plug into that campaign.

It’s another module based on an RE Howard short story of the same name. It may not be to everyone’s taste, as it represents a departure from hack and slash Conan style play. The adventure is more of a murder-mystery and in a way Conan, or the player in the module, is not even the main protagonist. In my adaptation, the story is expanded, moved from Nemedia to Arenjun and altered somewhat into a melange of Conan meets Alien meets Sherlock Holmes, and if that hasn’t put you off already perhaps you might enjoy it.

The adventure is set in the Merchant District of Arenjun, introducing that district to the player. It is essentially just a side quest that can be undertaken during the Tower of the Elephant adventure, or after completing that adventure. Some skills in search, lore and spot, and a reasonable intelligence level, will be helpful to play this adventure.

It might only take an hour or so to play and much of it takes the form of a series of cutscenes with triggered events all in the same building, so this linear aspect may again not be enjoyed by everyone. Sadly, it’s taking appreciably longer than an hour to design, write all the dialogues and program the cutscenes and complex behaviours of the protagonists…
