Taxation

Moving on to the main source of income, namely taxation, the income value listed on the main campaign screen next to each city is the unmodified “tax wealth” of each individual settlement. It is the sum of the different types of wealth producing buildings in that settlement, adjusted by the different types of wealth % bonuses. I call the wealth production values wealth adders and the % bonuses wealth multipliers. The multiplier is a proportion of the base value added to the value, so +50% bonus gives 1.5 times the base value, and +100% is double the base value.

Some of these multipliers will be province-wide, e.g. a high level market town, some will be faction-wide, e.g. wonders, technologies. The actual income you get from the whole province, as shown in the bottom left window Province Summary (for illustration see Example of Optimising Province Income page), is the sum of these values across all 2 to 4 settlements in the province, modified by three factors: the tax rate, slave income and the corruption value. The three modifiers are added together, coming to an overall positive or negative, and then applied to the base province income.
